An IP-based microphone, commonly referred to as an IP microphone, is a network-enabled paging device used in IP public address (PA) and voice alarm systems. These microphones connect directly to an Ethernet network and transmit audio using standard protocols such as SIP, RTP, and multicast. Many models support PoE (Power over Ethernet), simplifying installation and reducing cabling requirements.

IP-based microphones are widely used in smart buildings, offices, factories, hospitals, campuses, airports, and railway stations. They enable zone-based paging, emergency announcements, and integration with IP PBX systems, fire alarm systems (FAS), and audio servers. Compared to conventional analog microphones, IP microphones offer superior scalability, remote management, and centralized control. Available as desktop paging consoles or wall-mounted units, IP-based microphones are essential components of modern network audio and life-safety communication systems.
